PTSD Service Dog Tasks

Home » PTSD Service Dog Tasks

Four Important Tasks

Learn how to train an anxiety alert, making space (blocking), nightmare interruption and deep pressure therapy. These tasks are often needed for service dogs trained to help people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and people with many other disabilities including Traumatic Brain Injuries and autism.

“This course is excellent, giving clear instructions to build four useful tasks from start to finish.  I highly recommend this course to trainers wanting to expand their knowledge in the growing field of serving clients with PTSD.”

Melissa Laub DDS, CPDT-KA, SDC Co-founder Teal Paws

Who this Course is For

This course was designed for professional dog trainers who have experience using reward-based techniques including lure-reward and clicker training.

What You Will Learn

An in-depth look at the training process for four tasks often needed for PTSD service dogs. Watch detailed presentations of the step-by-step process and understand potential caveats and challenges. You will also learn about needed foundation skills, different strategies to train the same behaviors as well as alternative tasks that may be helpful. Downloads for this course include step-by-step training “recipes” for each of the tasks.

“I’m really impressed by the thought you put into setting up the course, the layout, presentation of information, consistency of nomenclature and use of learning points like ‘keys to remember.'”

Leslie Sinn, DVM, DACVB, CPDT-KA, Behavior Solutions

How You Will Learn

You will watch video presentations, training demonstrations and read course materials. This course also includes links and supporting materials. While this course can be completed in an afternoon or two, you will have access to it for a full 90 days. Handouts are provided in PDF so you can download them for your personal use.

“I loved the information. I’m a big clicker fan, shaping, targeting and platform training. I found this course to be a huge eye opener for me because I can easily do this. I had always searched for information on how to teach these things. I wish I would have found you earlier!”

Marion O’Neil CPDT-KA, CTDI, Molassas Creek Dog Training
